MILLING AND RESURFACING PROJECTS FOR HUNTSVILLE
Weather permitting, the City of Huntsville Public Works Services will begin milling and resurfacing the following streets.

LOOSE LEAF COLLECTION BEGINS NOVEMBER 3
HUNTSVILLE, AL --- Loose leaves for residents of the city of Huntsville will be collected November 3, 2008 through Feb 26, 2009 on a weekly schedule according to residents' trash/garbage collection days.

Garbage and Trash Collection Schedule for Thanksgiving Week:
Mon., November 24th - Monday’s collection will be made
Tues., November 25th – Tuesday’s Garbage/Trash collection
Wed., November 26th - Wednesday’s Garbage/Trash collection
Thur., November 27th - Closed for Thanksgiving Day.
Fri., November 28th - Thursday’s Garbage/Trash collection


COUNCIL MEETINGS RESCHEDULED
Resolution No. 08-998 adopted by the City Council of the City of Huntsville, Alabama on October 9, 2008 has changed the second regular council meeting of the City Council scheduled for November 27, 2008 at 6:00pm to November 20, 2008 at 6:00pm; the first regular council meeting of the City Council scheduled for December 11, 2008 at 6:00pm to December 4, 2008 at 6:00pm; and the second regular meeting of the City Council scheduled for December 25, 2008 at 6:00pm to December 18, 2008 at 6:00pm.

VBC receives gift to make major renovations to Concert Hall
Linda and Mark Smith Family Foundation donates $3 million
Huntsville, Ala. --- The Von Braun Center's Concert Hall will receive a renovation in honor of a renowned businessman's innovation and love of music. Mrs. Mark C. Smith has offered a gift of $3 million, from the Linda and Mark Smith Family Foundation, to renovate and update the facility which will be named Mark C. Smith Concert Hall.

The City of Huntsville Department of Public Safety is pleased to announce the beginning of a new program that will enable individuals involved in traffic accidents within the city limits, to download these accident reports from the internet. Huntsville, Ala. --- If you like to play and enjoy a day at the playground, then you are in one of the best cities in the U.S. KaBoom and qubo recently selected cities across the nation which demonstrate dedication to promoting play. Huntsville was one of 67 cities selected.

6 new courts bring hard court action to Huntsville Tennis Center
Facility is recognized as one of the elite in nation
Huntsville, Ala. --- Huntsville Tennis Center Board of Control members and staff were joined by local tennis leagues to open 6 new hard courts at the Huntsville Tennis Center. Not wasting a minute of playtime, tennis enthusiasts began matches on the new hard courts as soon as the ribbon was cut. The 6 new lighted hard courts were estimated to cost approximately $680,000. The actual completion costs, after landscaping will be $290,000. The city of Huntsville managed the project and completed some work in-house to facilitate a savings in construction costs.

Newest Shuttle Bus route serves western portions of the city
Huntsville, Ala. --- The city's Parking & Public Transit Department launched the city's newest Shuttle Bus route which serves western portions.

The Research Park Route has stops in Cummings Research Park as well as Bridge Street Town Centre, Westside Centre, Wal-mart on University Drive and will link to the soon to open UAH intermodal center.

Huntsville residents have opportunity to take Sports Safety Course
Huntsville leading Alabama in participating in sports safety training
Huntsville, Ala. --- Tennis courts, swimming pools, golf courses as well as baseball, softball and soccer fields are or will soon be full of activity. Are you prepared to respond to safety issues such as injuries or weather precautions? The City of Huntsville's Recreation Services Department has partnered with the National Center for Sports Safety in educating the public on basic procedures for parents and coaches of youth sports.

Heart of Huntsville Drive provides additional downtown corridor
Project is completed at $119,548 under contract amount
Huntsville, Ala. --- Road work in Huntsville continues at a steady pace with 23 projects in active construction or under design to provide enhanced traffic movement through the city. Heart of Huntsville Drive opened after a ribbon cutting ceremony and the official first drive across the roadway by employees who have been involved in the project. The road has been completed at a total cost of $1,559,468.69 which is $52,228 under the contracted amount. Cost of the bridge was completed with the total cost of $1,393,712.86 which also was $67,320.26 under the contracted amount.

Popular Science magazine recognizes nation's best cities for environmental living
Huntsville, Ala. --- Huntsville's recognition as one of the country's most environmental cities was furthered today by Popular Science magazine in its listing of "America's Top 50 Greenest Cities".

Using data from the U.S. Census Bureau and the National Geographic Society's Green Guide, the study collected information on U.S. cities with more than 100,000 people. The categories analyzed were electricity, transportation, green living, and recycling and green perspective.

Local dogs howl with excitement over new dog park
"Chip In" event celebrates "Dog Spot's" opening
Huntsville, Ala. --- The Dog Spot is Huntsville's first dog park. This wonderful, off-leash doggie play area is the size of two football playfields. Conveniently located in Huntsville's downtown area, the dog park is on Cleveland Avenue by the skateboard park.
